Read Roald Dahl rewrites: edited language in books criticised as ‘absurd censorship’ by Guardian staff reporter

I’m sure there is a balance yet to be found but having read some older books to my children some of the language is “awkward” to say the least. Stuff like East Asian characters described as having “yellow” skin. If I read that to them verbatim it results in a completely unnecessary conversation https://www.theguardian.com/books/2023/feb/20/roald-dahl-books-rewrites-criticism-language-altered

High inflation and added demand mean that, in spite of ongoing savings from becoming a unitary authority, the council needs to find an extra £63 million to cover its costs for the coming year.

This seems fine.

Watched Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood (2019) by an author from letterboxd.com
Los Angeles, 1969. TV star Rick Dalton, a struggling actor specializing in westerns, and stuntman Cliff Booth, his best friend, try to survive in a constantly changing movie industry. Dalton is the neighbor of the young and promising actress and model Sharon Tate, who has just married the prestigious Polish director Roman Polanski…

I liked how it turned out. Much better than real life. And I liked a lot about how it was made. But I didn’t actually like the sum of the parts.

Watched Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003) by an author from letterboxd.com
It's been 10 years since John Connor saved Earth from Judgment Day, and he's now living under the radar, steering clear of using anything Skynet can trace. That is, until he encounters T-X, a robotic assassin ordered to finish what T-1000 started. Good thing Connor's former nemesis, the Terminator, is back to aid the now-adult Connor … just like he promised.

Wow. Even this is 20 years old now,

I’m not actually sure why I watched this again.

Yesterday, I drank too much caffeine too late in the day and couldn’t get to sleep. While I couldn’t get to sleep I realised a solution to a problem I have been mulling over for about six months. Started work on it this morning and it’s going to work just fine!

In recent posts I’ve used ASCII footnotes like "^1" to indicate more information about a subject in a footnote line starting with "^1" at the bottom of the post. Both inline refs & footer notes should use Unicode superscripts like '¹' and hyperlink both ways, in contexts that support it. I have...

I thought footnotes were a massive accessibility no-no because screen readers… is that not the case?
