Watched Urban Legend (1998) from letterboxd.com
A college campus is plagued by a vicious serial killer murdering students in ways that correspond to various urban legends.

I had very fond memories of this but, actually, it’s pretty bad. There is a super high body count, though!

Watched Werewolf by Night (2022) from letterboxd.com
On a dark and somber night, a secret cabal of monster hunters emerge from the shadows and gather at the foreboding Bloodstone Temple following the death of their leader. In a strange and macabre memorial to the leader’s life, the attendees are thrust into a mysterious and deadly competition for a powerful relic—a hunt that will ultimately bring them face to face with a dangerous monster.

Excruciatingly and infuriatingly average

Watched Tenet (2020) from letterboxd.com
Armed with only one word - Tenet - and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time.

Simultaneously total 1 ⭐️ timey-wimy bollocks and a 5 ⭐️ masterpiece of such ambitious extent you’ll be mulling it over for days afterwards.

Watched My Best Friend's Exorcism (2022) from letterboxd.com
The year is 1988. Abby and Gretchen have been best friends since fourth grade. After an evening of skinny-dipping goes disastrously wrong, Gretchen begins to act…different, which leads Abby to suspect her best friend may be possessed by a demon. With help from some unlikely allies, Abby embarks on a quest to save Gretchen. But is their friendship powerful enough to beat the devil?

I wanted to like this but there is very little to recommend it. I have never used the word ‘pastiche’ in my life but it is perfect here.

Watch Jennifer’s Body instead.

Watched Fright Night (1985) from letterboxd.com
Nobody believes teenager Charley Brewster when he discovers that his suave new neighbor, Jerry Dandrige, is a vampire. So when the bloodsucker starts stalking Charley, he turns to has-been actor Peter Vincent, famed for portraying a ghoul hunter. Unfortunately for the would-be vampire slayers, Dandrige has set his sights on Charley's girlfriend.

Come for the comedy, stay for the special effects

Watched Fury (2014) from letterboxd.com
In the last months of World War II, as the Allies make their final push in the European theatre, a battle-hardened U.S. Army sergeant named 'Wardaddy' commands a Sherman tank called 'Fury' and its five-man crew on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Outnumbered and outgunned, Wardaddy and his men face overwhelming odds in their heroic attempts to strike at the heart of Nazi Germany.

It’s trying to be about futility and brutality and fraternity and all that, but it enjoys the violence too much and it leaves a bad taste.

Watched Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998) from letterboxd.com
Two decades after surviving a massacre on October 31, 1978, former baby sitter Laurie Strode finds herself hunted by persistent knife-wielder Michael Myers. Laurie now lives in Northern California under an assumed name, where she works as the headmistress of a private school. But it's not far enough to escape Myers, who soon discovers her whereabouts. As Halloween descends upon Laurie's peaceful community, a feeling of dread weighs upon her -- with good reason.

There is a surprisingly low body count and a lack of fun kills, which seems a bit of a crime given it has 20 years of slashers to draw on. Not really sure why it has an 18 cert either…

Watched Alien: Covenant (2017) from letterboxd.com
Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship 'Covenant' discovers what is thought to be an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world—which has a sole inhabitant: the 'synthetic', David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Works well enough in isolation. Considered in the round, still don’t make sense.
