I think “winning” the second World War was the worst thing that ever happened to Britain psychologically. We continue to celebrate the losses and hardships more than the victory. Dunkirk, the Blitz, rationing. Ask five people on any high street, on which day of the year we remember the fallen and I reckon 4 out of 5 will tell you. Ask anyone over 50 and it’ll be 100%. Then ask them when VE Day is. I reckon anyone under-25 won’t even know what VE day is…

Just had a random urge to watch John Carpenter’s The Fog. Lovely sunny day here… not sure where that came from at all!

When your party has a majority it’s a “clear mandate from the people”. When the OTHER party has the majority it’s “unchecked power”.

Oh, dear. I think Ben is a bit confused.

“With what audacity do you compare Hamas that murdered, burned, butchered, decapitated, raped and kidnapped our brothers and sisters and the IDF soldiers fighting a just war.”

Well, I’m not sure we have any ironclad evidence of rape and kidnap against civilians by the IDF but we can definitely check-off “murdered, burned, butchered and decapitated” – it’s on the news every day. That’s how I’d compare them.

Whether you regard this as “just” or not is a matter of perspective but the actions of Hamas and the IDF are entirely comparable.

Watched Jurassic World Dominion (2022) by an author from letterboxd.com
Four years after Isla Nublar was destroyed, dinosaurs now live—and hunt—alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures.

Exceeded my rock bottom expectations by some margin. While JP might be a stone classic, many films in this series are objectively bad. Look at JP2. I admire the effort to take this beyond “the dinosaurs got out (again)”.

And the ensemble was pretty well served, didn’t feel like anyone was there for the sake of it. Except maybe Alan, but that was even played up.
